Governance
The MECPD is governed by a seven-member board of commissioners, and is comprised as follows:
Two commissioners are appointed by The Melrose East Property Owners Association.
The Mayor of the Baton Rouge shall appoint one member.
The member of the Baton Rouge Council whose district encompasses all or the greater portion of the area of the district shall appoint one member.
The member of the Louisiana Senate whose district encompasses all or the greater portion of the area of the district shall appoint one member.
The member of the Baton Rouge Tax Assessor whose district encompasses all or the greater portion of the area of the district shall appoint one member.
All members shall own property within the district.
The Melrose East Crime Prevention District (MECPD) and its governance structure was approved as R.S. 33:9097.7 and amended as recently as 2024. Louisiana Legislative Session.
